An 87-year-old German male died at around midday on Monday in Puerto Soller while swimming at the local beach. The victim was a resident of the island. The incident occurred on Passeig des Través, opposite the Hotel Espléndido. Several officers from the Soller Local Police were received calls reporting a man in trouble in the water.

Once rescued, the area was cordoned off while lifeguards and officers carried out cardiopulmonary resuscitation, taking turns until the arrival of the 061 ambulances. The emergency services continued with CPR but, despite their efforts, they were unable to revive him and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Although the exact causes are still unknown, the main hypothesis is that the victim suffered an illness while swimming, which caused him to faint and swallow water.

In fact, when he was rescued from the sea, the man had already gone into cardiac arrest. Last week, a 52-year-old British male died after being found floating face down in a hotel swimming pool in S’Illot. According to SAMU 061, emergency services received the call. After finding him floating in the pool, they pulled him out and began basic life support until an ambulance arrived, but they were unable to save his life. The man was in cardiac arrest due to drowning and was pronounced dead at the scene.
