A six-year-old Finnish girl is in critical condition after a near-drowning incident this Thursday afternoon at a hotel swimming pool in Sa Coma. The emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 2pm local time.
The incident unfolded when a lifeguard and a pool user, who happened to be a nurse, spotted the child floating face down in the water. They immediately pulled her out and, upon finding she wasn't breathing, commenced basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures. The quick response proved crucial as the young girl began expelling water shortly after.
Emergency response
An advanced life support ambulance from 061 Emergency Services arrived promptly at the scene, alongside Local Police from Sant Llorenç and Civil Guard units. Medical staff stabilised the semi-conscious child, who was presenting with severe polytrauma symptoms, before transferring her to Son Espases Hospital for urgent treatment.
