Calvia Town Council has launched a new initiative to enrich and revitalise the experience of those visiting the destination: a photographic selfie route in Magalluf comprising strategically located stands. This new infrastructure is designed so that both visitors and residents can capture the perfect self-portrait, immortalising the town’s most iconic and representative landscapes.

Through this installation, the council provides a solution to a common holiday dilemma: having to ask a stranger to take a photograph or settling for a traditional selfie that usually fails to properly capture the beauty or details of the surroundings. The Magalluf selfie route is a tourist experience marketed by the company TURS take your selfie.

It involves a patented smart signage system that allows visitors to take perfect photos and selfies independently. Four stands have already been installed on Passeig Calvià and near Magalluf beach on the Paseo Marítimo, and three more will be installed shortly at the Torre de Torrenova estate.

The geolocation of each photo stand directs visitors to the other photo spots that make up the route – currently four locations designed to reveal the essence of Magalluf, offering different contrasts such as rural Magalluf, with a perspective showcasing the inland landscape and the historic Cas Saboners estate; spectacular panoramic views towards the Torrenova peninsula, ideal for sunrise photos; the iconic Illa de Sa Porrassa, a natural symbol of Magalluf, and the ‘Skyline’, a spot designed to capture the area’s most modern and cosmopolitan side with its distinctive buildings.

The posts offer much more than just street furniture, as each one functions as a virtual tour guide. By scanning the QR code on each post, users access the Route’s web app, which provides information including descriptions, photographs and an audio guide in several languages to explore each point of interest in depth. The platform also includes links to the events calendar, hotels, restaurants and local businesses in the area.

With this initiative, the council aims to enhance the visitor experience and encourage users to share their fondest memories of Magalluf, turning visitors themselves into the destination’s best ambassadors and promoting the area organically through social media.

The initiative forms part of the awareness campaign on sustainable tourism in Magalluf, which promotes responsible behaviour among tourists and residents, fostering harmony and care for the environment; an initiative driven by the Balearic government and funded through the Sustainable Tourism Tax. Calvia Town Council has framed these actions under the slogan ‘Magaluf for All’.
