The National Police and the French authorities have arrested a man following an investigation which identified him as the alleged member of a gang responsible for the death of a man in Ibiza after stealing his luxury watch.

Officers have concluded this operation, which began on 15 August 2025, when a man was assaulted in the Marina area of Ibiza and had a high-end watch stolen from his wrist whilst he was accompanied by his partner.

In a statement, the police force explained that one of the members of the alleged criminal gang had already been arrested at that time. These individuals are believed to have coordinated their actions to watch and follow the victim until the final theft of the item.

From that moment, the Ibiza National Police launched an investigation to clarify the facts and arrest the remaining participants. Over the past few months, officers learned that the victim of the theft had died as a result of a head injury sustained during a fall at the time of the robbery.

Consequently, once the perpetrators had been identified, along with their varying degrees of involvement and culpability, efforts began to arrest them through the process of issuing a European arrest warrant via the courts in Ibiza, as these individuals had fled the island.

Finally, the main perpetrator was located in France in February and was arrested in recent days after presenting himself with false documentation. After spending a few days in pre-trial detention due to the risk of absconding, the detainee was brought before a judge in the French town of Amiens to face trial for the offence of document forgery and to have the arrest warrant processed.

The detainee, who faces possible charges of manslaughter, robbery with violence and membership of a criminal organisation, will be extradited in the coming days to appear before the Spanish judicial authorities. Furthermore, further arrests in the coming days cannot be ruled out.
