Officers from the National Police have arrested an 84-year-old woman who was “caught” drunk driving on Paseo Mallorca in Palma. When asked by a patrol car to stop the car, she told the officers where to go and gave them the finger, sticking her hand out of the window. The elderly woman is accused of a crime against road safety and assaulting an officer, as she also tried to bite one of the police officers’ hands and kicked him after finally getting out of the car.

The incident took place on Monday at around 5 p.m. Officers from the Rapid Response Unit (GOR) who were carrying out preventive duties noticed a vehicle driving erratically and endangering other road users. At number 3 Paseo Mallorca, the officers pulled up alongside the car, a Smart. At that moment, they discovered who was behind the wheel. It was an elderly woman who was clearly drunk.

The officers asked her to stop the car, but she ignored them. At that moment, she clearly told the police officers to get lost while showing them her middle finger through the car window. Another woman in the passenger seat kept repeating, ‘She’s had two bottles of wine.’ Seeing that there was no way to get the elderly woman to stop, the police officers decided to pull ahead and place their vehicle in front of hers. The woman’s reaction was to try to ram into them.

Finally, the woman got out of the vehicle and had to be helped to her feet. But not before kicking the officers and insulting them severely. ‘You’re a bully, you son of a bitch, you arsehole,’ she said to one of them. She then tried to bite his hand. After refusing to take a breathalyser test, she was arrested and taken to the police station.
