From 26 to 28 November, Mallorca will once again welcome professionals from all over the country, led by two international experts, to learn strategies for building audience loyalty through special programming and events. It will also serve as a space for the professionalisation of the Balearic audiovisual sector, as well as for the presentation of Balearic productions to programmers from all over the country. It is part of the Descobrint Cinema Balear exhibition and is funded by Europa Cinemas and the Balearic government through the Institut d’Estudis Baleàrics.
CineCiutat is organising the second edition of the only training programme for managers, programmers and cinema and festival professionals in Spain. Briton Jon Barrenechea is a film industry consultant with 30 years of experience in the film industry. He was recently vice-president of international distribution at MUBI for seven years and, prior to that, marketing director at Picturehouse Cinemas in the United Kingdom.
Wiktoria Pelzer from Austria is managing director of Stadtkino Wien and the recently opened Admiral Kino; she is also co-head of the distribution company Stadtkino Filmverleih and was awarded the Europa Cinemas ‘Businesswoman of the Year’ award in 2024. Both will lead three days of presentations, success stories, group work and participatory sessions in which to learn audience loyalty strategies through special programming and events.
CineCiutat wants to take advantage of the meeting to give visibility to Balearic creations and promote their programming in cinemas throughout the country. For this reason, the training will include a session in collaboration with the Associació de Productores Audiovisuals de les Iles Balears (APAIB) in which Balearic producers will be able to present their work to the attending programmers.
Cinema Boot Camp Mallorca also seeks to professionalise the Balearic fabric, so registration will be 100% free for managers and programmers of cinemas, festivals and Balearic projects, as well as covering travel and accommodation for those coming from Menorca, Ibiza or Formentera. "A conference where you can learn from international experts, have the opportunity to strengthen and expand your network of contacts, and collaborate closely with other professionals to explore new ways of addressing the new challenges of film exhibition and management."
