On Wednesday, National Police officers in Palma arrested a German on an arrest warrant for extradition under a European Arrest Warrant for the crime of fraud. Officers from the Organised Crime and International Crime Group of the National Police in Palma were on the trail of the suspect who was wanted by the German authorities after being sentenced to five years in prison for fraud.
According to information provided by Germany, the alleged perpetrator applied for state aid for his company between September 2020 and October 2021, providing false information in relation to the pandemic. As a result of the aid requested, the alleged perpetrator fraudulently obtained a total of €700,000. The German authorities issued a European Arrest Warrant for these offences.
Investigators knew that the alleged suspect was in Mallorca, so last Wednesday, officers from the National Police’s Organised Crime Group carried out an operation to locate and arrest him.
The alleged suspect was finally located at Palma airport where he was about to leave the island, having checked in for a flight. He was arrested in the boarding area and subsequently transferred to police headquarters.
The man was brought before the court, which ordered his provisional detention until his subsequent transfer and handover to the German authorities.
