The Palma courts have ordered the provisional detention of a man who was arrested in Mallorca by National Police officers on two European arrest warrants issued by the Luxembourg and Swiss authorities for the crimes of fraud and against property, as well as for a crime of document forgery. In a press release, the National Police reported that officers from the Organised Crime and International Crime Group of the National Police in Palma were tracking a man who was wanted by the authorities in Luxembourg and Switzerland and who was living in a village in Mallorca.
The officers were able to locate him and proceeded to arrest him on 20 August. At the time of his arrest, the man identified himself with Belgian documentation, an identity card and a driving licence bearing another name, for which he was also arrested for document forgery.
The detainee was wanted by the Luxembourg authorities as the alleged perpetrator of a fraud offence for making a false statement to obtain compensation from an insurance company. The man had allegedly falsely declared himself unfit for work, certifying sick leave certificates.
He was also wanted by the Swiss authorities for several offences, including charging compensation for fake sick leave and entering into contracts with several companies without paying for the work, making false statements in applications to the administration to obtain a licence to practise a healthcare profession. He is also accused of negligent injury to a patient. The alleged perpetrator was brought before the court, which ordered his provisional detention.
