Plan for more parking in Puerto Pollensa's La Gola

Something of the plan for La Gola; the roundabout is the one with the Canadair sculpture.

The UMP, Unió Mollera Pollencina, is the party at Pollensa town hall which principally represents Puerto Pollensa. Its one councillor, Andrés Nevado, forms part of the ruling administration with the Junts Avançam collective.

The UMP has announced that the regional environment ministry has given its initial approval to a proposal the party has made for the La Gola area in Puerto Pollensa. Under this, there would be public services in spaces adjoining the La Gola Park, a large recreational area to include a playground, and parking space for seventy vehicles.

Mayor Miquel Àngel March says that the plan is one that the UMP has proposed to the town hall administration and to the environment ministry. It relates to areas that fall under the Ibanat agency, which is part of the ministry. March adds that the ministry hasn't approved anything as yet. "It will study the proposal to see if it has environmental and legal viability."

The possibility for this type of development has been raised previously. The opposition party Tots per Pollença, led by ex-mayor Tomeu Cifre, proposed more parking in La Gola as a means of compensating for the loss of parking spaces on the coast road after the semi-pedestrianisation project was implemented.

The mayor and the UMP seem to differ in their opinions as to whether the UMP proposal is "a plan of uses". The mayor says not, but the UMP suggests that it is and that it will improve the general appearance of the entrance to Puerto Pollensa and create a connection with the walkway along the main road between the port and Pollensa town.

A plan of uses is basically as it sounds. It determines how land can be used and for what purposes.
