Some of the main topics on social media for British holidaymakers in Spain over the past few weeks have been where to find the cheapest pint of beer and the best value full English breakfast, not to mention the various tactics on how to grab a sun bed. However, the Spanish find all of the various post on social media highly amusing while some Britons find them rather embarrassing.

Not everyone coming to Spain is going so in search of the Holy Grail of cheap beer and English food - take away the weather and that can be enjoyed back in the UK. No wonder the Brits’ abroad image is slightly tarnished, and it’s not just in Spain where there have even been complaints of too many Spanish in resorts. The complaints stretch to Crete and Greece where the food is either “too foreign” or there were no baked beans for breakfast.

However, sun bed wars appear to be the latest social media highlight with reels and reels of battles being posted. But, in some parts of Spain, eager tourists could face hefty fines if they violate the country’s newly introduced sun bed regulations. These rules, designed to combat sun bed reserving and overcrowding, have been implemented across several popular Spanish tourist destinations, including Costa Blanca and Barcelona. Tourists who fail to adhere to these regulations, such as reserving sun beds too early or leaving personal belongings unattended for extended periods, could be hit with fines of up to €250 (£210).

According to travel experts at insurance comparison site Tiger, guests can face fines of up to €250, which would be an absolute shame on what is supposed to be a relaxing break. It was not too long ago that in Camp de Mar, Mallorca, some hotels were reportedly keeping their pools closed until later in the morning to ward off early risers.

But, cunning guests found a way around this rule - by placing their towels on the floor at the entrance to the pool. Photos supplied by hotel guests showed beach bags and towels placed in an orderly queue leading to the closed pool so hotel guests could secure their sun bed as soon as it opens.
