Town hall report opposes Puerto Alcudia plan

Further to yesterday's report on the arguments between Alcudia town hall and the Balearic Ports Authority regarding the development of the port area, the town hall's technical department has issued its report.

The special plan for Puerto Alcudia, this says, envisages the establishment of cafeterias and not restaurants. The project submitted by Marina Aucanada (awarded the development by the ports authority) includes restaurants, something opposed by the town hall as it argues these would have a harmful impact on the restaurants that are already on the stretch between the fishermen's pier and the port terminal. A cafeteria licence is different to one for a restaurant in that it permits a basic food menu.

The report also argues that the special plan does not allow the creation of a petrol station, something else that the town hall is against, or a diving school, while a roundabout included in the development would partly use municipal land. It goes on to say that the ports authority should exercise caution as there is an outstanding legal contest which has yet to be resolved, while it also warns that the development would be in breach of a 2004 agreement that regulates municipal use of the old Gesa pool and green area among others.

The ports authority has so far moved on the petrol station, suggesting that it could be dropped from the plan.
