16,000 people in the Balearics to cash in on new jobless benefits

Palma.—The long term unemployed who are no longer entitled to any state benefit, have been thrown a lifeline  by the government which has announced new benefits to help them while they search for a job.
A new social aid package for the unemployed in Spain has been approved  and it  will give a monthly allowance of 426 euros to around 450,000 affected people across Spain, 16,289 of them being here in the  in the Balearics.
 Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy signed the package that mainly aims to help unemployed citizens who were unable to overcome the consequences of the 2008 economic crisis, on Monday.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Rajoy said the consequences of the crisis were still visible in Spanish economy.
Rajoy acknowledged Spain had failed to meet the expectations of its peoples. He said Spain was still recovering from the harsh consequences of the 2008 and 2012 economic crises.
According to the new social aid package, unemployed people will receive a monthly allowance of   426 euros.
It comes into effect on 15 January, 2015 and will run until 15 April, 2016.
