Palma.—The former Partido Popular centre right President of the Balearics and Spanish Minister for the Environment, Jaume Matas, is going to go to prison.
After having watched appeals rejected, as a last resort he applied to central government for an official pardon, but that was yesterday turned down.
Matas has been sentenced to nine months in jail for having used his influence in government or connections with persons in authority to obtain favours or preferential treatment for another and will now have to go to jail.
Now, the Balearic High Court will decide what happens to Matas now and how his sentence will be served.
