Palma.—The Palma city council is getting tough and yesterday approved a new code of conduct for the city which aims to cure many of Palma´s ills.
Designed to make the city more “resident friendly” it aims to crackdown on illegal street vendors, bogus beggars, street prostitution, unruly behaviour and even buskers and street entertainers at traffic lights and at tourist spots. Even people wearing beach wear away from the promenade risk a fine.
Palma is home to the resorts of Arenal and Ca´n Pastilla where there has been a surge in street prostitution and illegal street vendors. The council has decided to penalise the client rather than the prostitute and those caught soliciting the services of a “lady of the night”could be fined.
