Half of the potable water in Manacor goes to waste every year due to the poor state of the local water pipes. A team of experts were working recently in the area and found 18 holes in the pipes, including in Pau street, Pou Fondo, Rei, Pere Llull and del Retir streets among others. That has led to the loss of a million cubic metres of water every year, almost half of the total water running through the pipes.
Council officials have said it would cost 90,000 to accurately check the conditions of all the pipes, something they say due to Spain’s Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy’s government “is impossible to undertake since new policies approved by the ruling party have forbidden investment that can lead to debts.”
