An ambulance packed with patients en route to hospital collided with a truck in eastern Spain yesterday, killing seven people and injuring one, police said. The ambulance had been taking patients from a small town to Valencia on the Mediterranean coast, local media said. Heavy fog may have contributed to the crash, police said, but a spokesman added that it was too early to determine the cause. The ambulance, which was carrying several people, collided with a truck that was carrying large beams just as it was turning onto the loop road leading to Valencia, the police spokesman said. It is common in Spain for ambulances to carry several people at a time from smaller towns to nearby cities for treatment.
