Dear Sir,
It is simply not true that the prospecting off our coasts is for gas and not oil (Daily B 15 March). For technical reasons the exploration is for any hydrocarbons and if lucky gas or oil may be found. No one will know which (or neither) until the drill penetrates. If coal or shale oil was found it will be left as is being uneconomic offshore. Also does anyone imagine that if a giant oil field like Prudhoe Bay in Alaska was discovered it would be ignored because it wasn’t gas?
Alberto Nadal (Secretary of State for Energy) and Isabel Borrego (Secretary of State for Tourism) in promoting the idea that only gas is being sought are probably trying to calm/con the environmentalists. If they have technical knowledge then they are misleading this lobby. If they are technically ignorant they should have remained silent.
