At Meliá Hotels International's annual general meeting of shareholders on Thursday, president and CEO Gabriel Escarrer said the group anticipates a summer with double-digit sales growth for Mallorca, the Balearics and Spain as a direct result of the redirection of tourist flows due to the conflict in the Middle East.

Pointing to the perception of destinations like Mallorca as "safe havens", Escarrer said the geopolitical situation will be a major factor in influencing the season. The hotel industry will experience substantial growth thanks to the preparations made after several years of "unprecedented uncertainty that Meliá had never faced before".

He highlighted the resilience of the sector in general and his hotel group in particular, stressing that "we cannot be content with being successful only because of the misfortunes of others". In this regard, he noted that the company is taking advantage of these "favourable winds" but without triumphalism.

Mallorca-based Meliá, which is Spain's largest hotel group, closed 2025 with a consolidated profit of €200.2 million. There was a 23.6% increase in revenue compared with 2024. "Meliá is today a stronger, more global company, better prepared for the challenges of the future."
