On March 22, Yolanda Moreno was found guilty of the murder of her new-born baby in Porto Cristo in November 2023. She wasn't in court to hear the verdict. Nor did she attend the court in Palma to hear the sentence a few days later - life imprisonment with the possibility of parole. She had gone on the run.
A nationwide arrest warrant was issued. On Wednesday around 8.30pm she was found and arrested in Manacor. When the car in which she was travelling with her boyfriend and other man was stopped, she apparently covered herself with a blanket and said nothing.
The search was coordinated by the National Police in Manacor and the Guardia Civil unit at the Provincial Court in Palma. Local police as well as the state security forces were involved in the hunt to find her. There had been a focus on coastal parts of Manacor, where a dozen or so patrols searched for her.
She was taken to court in Manacor on Thursday. A judge ordered her to prison. She will appear in court in Palma on Tuesday, where her detention will be ratified.
