The sixth edition of the Eco Rallye Mallorca – Inca Ciutat officially started on Friday, marking a significant event in Mallorca’s motor sport calendar. Organised by eMallorca Experience and the Ajuntament de Inca, the rally brings together numerous drivers promoting sustainable driving across the Balearics. The event highlights environmentally-friendly motoring, combining a competitive spirit with a firm commitment to reducing environmental impact.
Unlike traditional rallies, this competition awards the driver demonstrating the highest eco-efficiency over two days rather than the fastest lap times. Participants navigate a route spanning over 300 kilometres throughout the island, featuring electric and hybrid vehicles. The race begins at Inca's Plaza de España and includes scenic stages across Mallorca, notably through the Serra de Tramuntana.
Preparation and start
The day kicked off at the Cuartel General Luque, where drivers gathered with their vehicles to finalise preparations under sunny skies occasionally stirred by light winds. Authorities and organisers were present at the ceremonial ribbon-cutting and race start. Among those attending were Virgilio Moreno, the mayor of Inca; Diego Viu, Director General of Circular Economy, Energy Transition and Climate Change; Joan Antoni Ramonell, Director General of Sports; Guillem Ginard, Conseller of Tourism at the Consell de Mallorca; and Pedro Mas, Island Director of Tourism Governance and Sustainability for the Consell de Mallorca.
Route and key stops
During the afternoon, competitors made technical stops at Puerto Soller, followed two hours later by another at Puerto Andratx before returning to Plaza de España in Inca. The day concluded with the arrival of participants back at the starting point, greeted by traditional festivities including a batucada performance and the lighting of fiery dimonis figures.
The day’s activities also featured a special night stage for the Eco Rallye drivers, while the Inca Ciutat event section held its closing celebrations and awards presentation, rounding off a day focused on environmental awareness and motor sport in Mallorca.
Eco Rallye Mallorca's challenging night stage
The Eco Rallye Mallorca - Inca Ciutat featured a demanding night stage in its 2026 edition, with competitors tackling 170 kilometres under low visibility conditions. Following the initial 150 kilometres spread over the first two stages, drivers and co-drivers were required to adapt to a more intense concentration phase to preserve the efficiency of their vehicles as darkness settled. Inca once again served as the start and finish point, cementing its position as the hub of this pioneering event in the Balearics, linked to the multidisciplinary eMallorca Experience project.
The rally, now in its sixth year, continues to promote sustainable development by encouraging the use of clean energy and innovative technologies within the automotive sector. The municipality of Raiguer, hosting both the beginning and end of the competition in its formats, remains central to these efforts.
Antonio Luján secured victory in the Plug-in Hybrid category, exemplifying the competitive spirit combined with environmental awareness that characterises the event. The rally is increasingly entrenched in both the national and regional motorsport calendars, attracting a growing number of hybrid and electric vehicles and offering fans a motor sport event compatible with environmental preservation.
The event also included additional activities accessible to a wide audience, complementing the competitive programme and fostering public engagement. Notably, the traditional 'dimonis' enlivened the nighttime start, adding cultural flavour to the occasion.
Looking ahead, the Spanish Alternative Energy Championship will shift its focus to Asturias, with Llanes hosting the third of its six rounds this season, continuing the nationwide effort to highlight sustainable motorsports.
