The National Police have arrested a man, for whom a court has already ordered provisional imprisonment, for allegedly threatening a taxi driver with a knife to rob him in Palma. According to a press release from the Police Headquarters, early last Sunday morning, a taxi driver picked up a man in Peguera to take him first to Coll d’en Rabassa.
During the journey, everything went smoothly and without incident. However, at one point, the customer asked to be taken to Son Banya. At the end of the journey, the driver asked him to pay the fare, at which point the customer took out a large knife and threatened him: ‘Give me 50 euros or I’ll stab you,’ he said, according to police reports.
The victim tried to appease the alleged perpetrator, but he snapped that he would either give him the money or he would stab him. Similarly, as he left, the assailant threatened him again. ‘Don’t call the police, give me your number and I’ll give you back 100 euros,’ he said.
Moments later, upon leaving the village, the taxi driver called the National Police and several patrol cars quickly arrived and interviewed him to find out the physical characteristics of the alleged perpetrator. Then, after searching the village and its surroundings, the officers located the alleged assailant.
When he saw the police officers, he made a move to put his hands in his trousers to take something out of his belongings. The officers had to draw their service weapons to get him to lie down on the ground and keep his hands in plain sight. Shortly afterwards, he was arrested and finally admitted to the facts.
