Strong gusts of wind caused the cancellation of five flights and the diversion of another six on Saturday morning due to operational difficulties at Palma airport. At Menorca and Ibiza airports, no incidents related to adverse weather conditions have been reported so far, according to Aena.

In addition, according to maritime transport websites, high waves have forced the closure of the port of La Savina in Formentera until further notice. According to the emergency service’s social media account, a yellow alert is also in place for rain and storms across the region. The yellow alert has also been issued in Menorca for strong winds and in Ibiza and Formentera for coastal phenomena.

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued an orange alert for strong gusts of wind in Ibiza and Formentera and inland Mallorca, where they could reach 90 kilometres per hour (km/h). The rest of Mallorca, except for the Llevant area, and Menorca are under a yellow warning for wind, with gusts of between 70 and 80 km/h. On the peaks of the Serra de Tramuntana, gusts could reach up to 120 km/h.

Due to coastal phenomena, with waves between four and five metres high, an orange warning is in place in Menorca and Mallorca, again with the exception of Llevant, which, like Ibiza and Formentera, is on yellow alert. The MA-2130 road, which connects Caimari with Lluc, remains closed to traffic from km 8.200 after several pine trees fell onto the road, caused by strong gusts of wind recorded in Mallorca on Saturday morning.

Strong gusts of wind, which have put Mallorca on orange alert, have caused around fifteen incidents throughout Saturday morning on the island. According to the Mallorca Fire Brigade, the night was quiet and no significant incidents were reported. However, since 7 a.m., 15 incidents have been reported, mainly involving fallen trees and branches in areas such as Calvia, El Raiguer, the Lluc road, Santa Eugènia, Alaró and Llucmajor. Some trees and branches have fallen on various roads, forcing the fire brigade to remove them to allow vehicles to pass.

Storm Kristin, the latest weather front to sweep through the mainland, has caused significant damage to fruit and vegetable production in southern Spain. According to local reports, the storm has damaged infrastructure and caused widespread flooding to farms.
