At the Fitur tourism fair in Madrid on Wednesday, President Prohens praised the Balearics' "tourism leadership" within the EU. The islands, she said, are "once again exercising tourism leadership while simultaneously combining this success with the well-being of residents".

"We are very proud to be a tourism community, proud of our tourism sector, of our economic and social stakeholders, of our history, and of the leadership exercised from islands in the middle of the Mediterranean, influencing the world."

In this regard, Prohens celebrated the approval of Balearic proposals to the European Committee of the Regions regarding the management of tourist flows, growth "in value" rather than "in volume", circularity, the sustainability of natural resources, and the commitment to innovation and talent.

"We have registered growth higher than that of Spain as a whole and higher than the European average," Prohens pointed out, adding that tourism can never be "a wall" but a bridge between cultures and peoples. "Tourism is and will continue to be welcome."

After highlighting the culture, heritage and gastronomy of the Balearic Islands, she pledged to continue focusing on strengthening tourism through innovation, training, and sustainability - the three pillars that have guided the regional government's tourism management.

With regard to sustainability, Prohens drew attention to progress made in reducing seasonality and transforming the tourism model through measures such as negotiating the implementation of the tourist tax and offering incentives for stays during the off-season.

The Balearic Islands have recorded their best low-season figures ever, with 741,000 visitors between November 2024 and March 2025, 12% more than in 2023 to 2024, a mark - she said - of the Balearic Government's "unprecedented commitment" to tourism.
