Far right party Vox has demanded that the regional government and the Spanish government take ‘immediate measures’ to prioritise medical care for “nationals” and ‘legal residents’ in order to ‘ensure the economic viability of IbSalut (the Balearic health service)’. The party has reacted in this way to the response given by the Regional Ministry of Health to a parliamentary question asked by Vox spokesperson in the Parliament, Manuela Cañadas, to find out the number of medical consultations requested by migrants in an irregular administrative situation during 2024 and 2025.
In a statement, Vox indicated that the Department of Health reported that nearly 200,000 appointments were requested in primary care. ‘These figures demonstrate the enormous pressure that illegal immigration exerts on public services and the community’s coffers,’ said Cañadas.
According to this official documentation sent by IbSalut, between 1 January 2024 and 20 September 2025, there were 194,608 medical consultations in primary care - 103,124 in 2024 and 91,484 so far in 2025. In addition, there were 40,240 emergency room visits and nearly 28,000 hospital stays.
‘It is an insult to the citizens of the Balearics who pay their taxes religiously and suffer endless waiting lists to see their GP or specialist.
'A system is being financed that prioritises those who arrive by breaking the law over residents who have been paying their contributions all their lives,’ he argued. For this reason, they have emphasised that these figures ‘are not just health statistics’, but ‘a direct indicator of the pull factor’.
In addition, they have highlighted that just a month ago, Vox was “alone” in its request to limit vital emergency care to illegal immigrants in order to ‘avoid collapsing a system that is already at breaking point and to prioritise residents’.
