Palma council trucks were out in the centre of the city early this morning for the launch of operation Christmas lights. The lorries were carrying the huge pylons which are erected each year between which the lights are hung and despite the sun beating down and those lucky enough heading to the beach, the city is getting ready for the festive season.

Palma will officially kick off the festive season with its much-anticipated Christmas lights switch-on on Saturday 22nd November 2025, the weekend before Black Friday. Palma town hall has confirmed that this year’s celebration will be centred on a spectacular audiovisual show, combining projections, lighting, and sound to create a magical atmosphere in the city. The event will last between 30 and 60 minutes, building towards the traditional countdown and the grand moment when the city’s Christmas lights are illuminated.

The switch-on marks the start of Palma’s festive calendar, with even more streets set to shine this year. The production will include full technical staging, from lighting and sound to set design, promising an unforgettable evening for residents and visitors alike. However, it appears that Ibiza has beaten Palma to it. Residents of Sant Antoni and ses Païsses were surprised last Thursday to find Christmas lights already installed on street lamps in some streets in the municipality.

Supermarkets have also begun selling Christmas products such as polvorones, panettone and a wide variety of sweets, which are already on the shelves of some large stores on the island of Ibiza, sharing space with decorative items and food related to Halloween, which is celebrated on the night of 31 October.

In mid-October, the municipality of Sant Antoni de Portmany began installing lights ‘to be ready in time’ for the lighting ceremony which, according to the Town Hall, will take place ‘initially on the last Friday in November’, coinciding with Black Friday.
