The 49-year-old Dominican man who was arrested on Friday after slashing the throat of his partner has been remanded in custody without bail.
He appeared before a court in Inca on Sunday morning, charged with attempted murder. He exercised his right not to testify, and the judge ordered his immediate admission to prison in Palma.
The incident occurred in Puerto Alcudia around 8am on Friday. There was an argument between the couple, during which he produced a kitchen knife and attacked her. It was he who called the emergency services, telling them that the woman was losing a lot of blood. Alcudia Police arrested him before handing him over to the Guardia Civil.
The woman, also originally from the Dominican Republic, was initially taken to Inca Hospital. She was subsequently transferred to Son Espases in Palma, where she remains in a serious but stable condition in intensive care.
