Arta Town Council is set to approve a motion at its next full meeting calling on the Government to resume plans to reinstate the railway line between Manacor and Arta. All parties on the council – PSOE, Pi and UIA – except the PP, are jointly backing the motion, which urges the resumption of work on the Llevant railway corridor.

Supporters of the motion say the project has long been a priority for the region and features in both the 2005 Sectoral Master Transport Plan and the 2019 Mobility Master Plan. They are also pressing for progress on the review of construction projects and the completion of a feasibility study for a potential Cala Millor variant, while ensuring the project is funded through local resources, such as the Sustainable Tourism Tax.

The council has called for the section between Manacor and Sant Llorenç to be drafted in 2025, noting that the route requires no changes and that a project already exists from 2009. The plan is for the works to be tendered in 2026.

The motion stresses a commitment to “cooperate with relevant councils and institutions to ensure that the railway’s restoration is carried out in a participatory way, involving local stakeholders and community organisations.”
