The Balearics reached a human pressure of 1,889,506 people this June, a figure that represents a decrease of 0.4% compared to the same month last year, with 7,708 fewer people on average, according to the indicator published on Wednesday by the Balearic Institute of Statistics (Ibestat). By island, the trend varies, with Mallorca, Menorca and Formentera reaching record human pressure for the month of June, but in Ibiza the pressure has decreased.

In Mallorca, the maximum IPH in June stood at 1,392,626 people, 0.4% higher than the same month last year; and in Menorca it reached 195,062, 1.4% more. In Ibiza, the maximum IPH in June was 290,219 people, 1.4% less than a year ago; and in Formentera it was 30,282, 0.5% higher than in June 2024. According to the latest data from the National Statistics Institute (INE), the Balearics had 1,251,086 residents on 1 July 2025, which means that at its peak occupancy in June, the actual population of the islands exceeded the number of permanent residents by 51%.

The month with the lowest pressure so far in 2025 was January, with 1,247,405 people. The Balearics recorded their highest ever human pressure on 7 August last year, with 2,079,541 people, including residents and tourists. The Balearics has once again broken its population record, with 1,251,086 people living on the islands on 1 July, almost 12,501 more than a year ago, and only 626 of them were Spanish. In other words, 95% of the new residents that the region has gained over the past year are foreigners. The result is that migration from other countries has led to this new increase in residents, one of the largest in Spain, with a 0.42% increase in one quarter, according to data published today by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

Mallorca is approaching one million inhabitants, with 971,369, of whom 275,478 were born abroad, 28% of the total. Ibiza is the second most populated island, with 165,289 inhabitants, of whom 57,741 are from another country (35% of the total), and Menorca has 102,880 inhabitants, 21,780 of whom are foreign nationals (21%). The population of Formentera is 11,548, of whom 4,219, or 37%, are foreigners.

The population of the islands is growing thanks to the arrival of citizens from other countries, with a particularly significant increase in Colombians. During the first six months of the year, a total of 3,340 citizens born in Colombia arrived on the islands. They are followed by Argentineans, with 1,930 in six months, and Moroccans, with 1,170 new residents since January.
