The president of the Palma and Cala Major Hoteliers Association, Francisco Serrano, says his members are registering "an extraordinary volume" of bookings for Christmas lunches and dinners. Mainly for companies' Christmas meals, the reservations are such that function rooms in some hotels are booked out.
Serrano adds that this is a welcome boost to revenue after an autumn of "moderate activity".
The holiday weekend for Constitution Day and the Immaculate Conception was in line with this level of activity. Palma is not a particularly strong destination for these dates. Occupancy hovered around 50%, which is normal.
"At Christmas, we usually reach 70% occupancy. On specific days, Christmas Day or New Year's Eve, we are up to 90%." Serrano believes that the Palma Per Tu campaign will be a "very effective incentive" for visitors to Palma from the other islands. There are discounts of up to 20% on Balearia ferries and Uep Fly flights.
In general terms, 2025 is shaping up to be very similar to 2024. The association estimates that the annual average occupancy rate will be around 70%, with peaks of 90% at key times.
