Palma airport is experiencing widespread delays this Wednesday afternoon due to bad weather and rain throughout the day in Mallorca. According to information from airport authority Aena, Son Sant Joan airport has reported, as of 4.30 p.m., up to 64 delayed flights and two cancellations. Of the delays, 43 are flights scheduled to take off from Palma and the remaining 21 are flights scheduled to land. The cancellations are one take-off and one landing, both in connection with Luxembourg.

Among the flights affected by the weather are both domestic connections, particularly to Madrid and Barcelona, and international connections, many of them to northern European countries such as Germany, the Netherlands and Great Britain. The Spanish air navigation manager, Enaire, has reported on its social media account that the storms occurring this Wednesday in Catalonia could affect operations at El Prat airport and en-route sectors.

Air traffic controllers, also on X, have warned that storm cells in the north-east of the peninsula and the Mediterranean are forcing aircraft to continuously deviate from their established routes and that, therefore, air traffic volume must be reduced to ensure safety.

This, they have pointed out, may cause ‘significant delays’, especially at Barcelona airport.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has reported that a band of cloud entered the west of Mallorca on Wednesday, bringing light rain and some lightning.
