Temperatures are rising sharply in Mallorca, with some parts of the island expected to reach 30ºC in the coming days, according to Jorge Rodríguez, deputy spokesperson for the territorial delegation of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) in the Balearics. This increase is attributed to the presence of a high-pressure system and longer daylight hours. "There is no warm air mass or anything like that," he clarifies.

Rodríguez reports that on Tuesday, maximum temperatures will range between 23ºC and 28ºC. These figures are considerably higher than the typical average of 23.5ºC for this time of year. Furthermore, he notes that last weekend's maximums were below average for mid-May, with Saturday's temperatures not exceeding 20ºC to 23ºC. Therefore, the upcoming temperature rise will be especially noticeable.

Forecasts for Wednesday, 20 May, show predominantly clear skies with some high clouds and patches of fog in the early morning and again at night. Winds will be light and variable, tending east with coastal breezes. Temperatures will remain steady or increase slightly, with highs between 23ºC and 29ºC. Rodríguez emphasises that the warmest conditions will be found in the island's interior.

On Thursday, 21 May, skies are expected to remain mostly clear with morning fog banks. Temperatures will remain similar or rise marginally. Winds will blow lightly from the north and east, accompanied by coastal breezes. This stable weather pattern is set to continue through the following days, with the deputy spokesperson highlighting that highs in the interior could reach 30ºC on Saturday and Sunday.

Meanwhile, temperatures near 40ºC are forecast for southern Spain. The Aemet predicts that on Thursday and Friday, temperatures will reach between 36ºC and 38ºC in the southwestern valleys and around the Ebro basin. Tropical nights are anticipated on Friday and Saturday in the southwest peninsular region. According to Rodríguez, Mallorca will not experience such high temperatures, thanks to the moderating effect of coastal breezes.
