Meteorologist Albert Darder, who is stationed on the Puig Major, reports the most significant March snowfall for thirteen years.

Almost April, and there has been a fair amount of snow in the Tramuntana Mountains, Darder and Aemet saying it has fallen at 800 metres. The met agency had forecast snow as a consequence of an Arctic front that was due to affect Mallorca on Sunday. The snowline could drop to 700 metres.

Darder, who provides enthusiastic reports every time there is snow, says this is the "snowiest Palm Sunday since 1969".

There has been heavy precipitation in the Tramuntana area on Sunday, Aemet's update at 8.42am indicating 52 litres per square metre in Port Soller. Elsewhere, there have been 37 litres on the Serra Alfabia in Bunyola, 34 at the Son Torrella weather station in Escorca and 32 in Lluc, also in Escorca. Away from the mountains, the heaviest has been 24 in Santa Maria.

A gust of over 100 km/h has been recorded at the Capdepera lighthouse, and temperatures are well below the average of 18C for the end of March.
