Mallorca enjoys mild weekdays before winter strikes again at the weekend

Two storms are threatening the islands—one from the Atlantic and another from Central Europe

Mallorca has fallen back into its usual pattern of stable weather during the week and unsettled conditions over the weekend. Last week was a perfect example: the island enjoyed spring-like temperatures from Monday to Friday, only for Saturday and Sunday to bring a return to harsh winter, with plunging temperatures, rain, strong gusts of wind, and even the heaviest snowfall of the season on the peaks of the Serra de Tramuntana. According to forecasts from the Spanish State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), a similar scenario is expected this week, though it will not be as cold or as windy as last week.

María José Guerrero, Aemet’s delegate and spokesperson in the Balearic Islands, explains that Tuesday, 17 March, predicts mostly clear skies. Night-time temperatures will remain steady or dip slightly, while daytime temperatures are expected to hover between 16°C and 21°C. Winds will generally be light, with coastal breezes picking up in the afternoon.

On Wednesday, mostly clear skies will continue, with temperatures remaining fairly stable. Winds will start light from the west and southwest, turning later in the day to light or moderate from the east and northeast. Guerrero adds that Thursday will bring a low chance of isolated showers and a slight drop in temperatures, with maximums around 15°C–18°C.

Looking ahead to the weekend, Friday and Saturday are expected to be dry, with temperatures similar to Thursday’s. However, the situation changes on Sunday, 22 March, when Mallorca is likely to experience unsettled conditions once again. Guerrero warns that two storms are threatening the islands—one from the Atlantic and another from Central Europe—and the degree of instability will depend on which storm takes precedence.

Residents and visitors are therefore advised to keep a close eye on the weather over the coming days, as conditions could change rapidly. While the start of the week looks mild and pleasant, the end of the week could bring a return of winter-like weather, making planning outdoor activities a little more uncertain.
