After an early forecast of sunshine and Christmas on the beach, the weather outlook for Mallorca appears to have taken a turn for the worse as the festive season approaches. According to Miquel Gili, deputy spokesperson for the Balearic Islands delegation of Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), several Atlantic fronts are now set to affect the island.

Weather models are predicting rainfall from this week through to at least 25 December, with indications that a succession of Atlantic fronts will continue to arrive, keeping conditions unsettled in the run-up to and during the Christmas period.

On Wednesday, Mallorca will remain under the influence of Storm Emilia during the first half of the day, with rain expected that could be accompanied by muddy deposits. Temperatures are forecast to remain largely unchanged, while winds will be light to moderate from the north-east.

By Thursday, skies are expected to feature cloudy intervals with occasional showers, which may again bring muddy rain. Temperatures will rise slightly, and winds will be light to moderate from the east and north-east, offering only brief and limited improvement in conditions.

Looking ahead to Christmas, Aemet’s current models point to a colder-than-usual festive period in Mallorca. Rain is still on the cards, although there is no indication of snowfall at present, meaning the island is more likely to experience a cool and wet Christmas than the beach weather many had initially hoped for.
