The storm on Thursday didn't deposit a huge amount of rain - the maximum accumulation was under 30 litres per square metre - but the rain was very heavy for a short period and strong gusts accompanied this downpour. Not everywhere, as gusts in northern areas were between 25 and 35 km/h rather than the 100 plus in Palma, 80 plus in Puerto Soller and 60 to 80 in parts of the south, east and interior and Tramuntana.
Friday is expected to be a mainly sunny day for the whole island, though parts of the Tramuntana are forecast to be quite cloudy. Very low risk of rain. But then we come to Saturday, for which there are all manner of weather alerts. As mentioned a few days ago in these reports, the wind from the north is due to be quite strong over the weekend, so there are alerts for high wind in the north/northeast and Tramuntana but not until the evening, when there are also yellow alerts for the coasts. Alerts for heavy rain are active for the whole of Saturday; amber in the Tramuntana, yellow elsewhere.
These alerts could be subject to upgrade, and there are likely to be more on Sunday, weather stations pointing to strong winds and a high risk of rain in the morning.
Looking ahead to next week, things should settle down and temperatures are forecast to rise a couple of degrees.
