Mallorca road closed after bad storm; lightning strike disrupts train services

Maintenance teams are working to clear the route

|

The road between Mancor and Selva in Mallorca has been closed after heavy storms on Monday left it blocked by mud and stones. Mallorca maintenance teams are working to clear the route and it will reopen once the clean-up is complete. At present, no other roads have been affected by the downpours.

The island remains under a yellow weather warning for rain and thunderstorms. Ex-hurricane Gabrielle, now classed as an extratropical storm, has already brought heavy rain to parts of Mallorca.

Weather conditions are expected to worsen on Tuesday, with Aemet raising the alert level to orange for the south, east and the Serra de Tramuntana.

Lightning hits Inca train station

Train services between Palma and Inca were disrupted on Monday after lightning struck Inca station during a strong storm. The incident caused delays across several routes, with many passengers caught by surprise during a busy travel period.

Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca (SFM) said the damaged equipment has now been repaired and services are gradually being restored. Delays are being reduced, particularly on the Palma–Inca line, although in some cases trains, such as those at Es Caülls, had to stop at unusual platforms. Passenger services were not seriously affected.
