The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has warned of a change in weather from Thursday in the Balearics, as after days of mainly clear skies, showers and storms could return. According to the deputy spokesperson for the Aemet delegation in the Balearics, Miquel Gili, on Tuesday and Wednesday the islands will be under the influence of a fairly warm air mass. For both days, airborne dust is expected. High temperatures are also expected.

The heart warnings will continue on Wednesday in the north and north-east and inland Mallorca. In addition, a warning will be issued for the risk of high temperatures in the east of Mallorca. In these areas, maximum temperatures could reach 38ºC on Wednesday. On Thursday, however, a change in the weather is expected in the Balearics due to the arrival of a cold front, which, although not expected to be very active, could bring some heavy showers accompanied by storms, especially in Menorca and northern Mallorca, according to Gili.

Aemet plans to issue warnings for rain and storms in the north and interior of Mallorca, where rainfall could reach 20 litres per square metre in one hour. Associated with this cold front, temperatures are expected to drop from Thursday onwards in the north of Mallorca, where the maximum temperatures will be around 30ºC, and Menorca, where they could even fall below this value. In the south of the island of Mallorca and in Ibiza and Formentera, the maximum temperatures could be around 33ºC or 34ºC.

On Friday and Saturday, the weather will remain somewhat unstable, with intervals of clouds and occasional scattered showers expected, according to the deputy spokesperson for the Aemet.
Maximum temperatures will be around 30ºC and 33ºC.

Meanwhile, minimum temperatures will drop to between 17ºC and 22ºC, and in many parts of the region, the temperature may even fall below 20ºC. Looking ahead to Sunday, Gili commented that, although there are still a few days to go, the trend is for the Balearics to bid farewell to August with clear skies and no rain forecast. Minimum temperatures, however, are expected to remain similar to previous days.
