Summer has begun in Mallorca with intense heat. Proof of this is that last Sunday temperatures reached 36º in Pollensa, Binissalem and Sineu, and exceeded 30º in much of the island. These are significantly higher than usual for this time of year, when the average temperature is 28º.

The delegate and spokesperson for the Balearic branch of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), María José Guerrero, has warned that the maximum temperatures will continue to rise over the next few days, although she stressed that we are not in a heatwave.

And, Guerrero has good news, as on Thursday, 26 June, a drop in temperatures is expected in Mallorca. In the meantime, Tuesday will be even hotter than Monday, as temperatures will rise slightly. For this reason, Aemet has extended the alerts, which will also affect the south and remain in place inland, with maximum temperatures reaching 38º. In addition, the night will be tropical or torrid in coastal areas, as the minimum temperatures will not drop below 20º or 25º, respectively.

Aemet forecasts Wednesday will be even hotter, with maximum temperatures reaching 38º and, at times, 39º in the shade. As a result, the entire island will be on heat alert, except for the eastern area. In addition, clear skies are expected with some intervals of medium or high clouds. It should be noted that there will be dust in suspension and the wind will blow lightly from the east with weak breezes, turning south in the afternoon.

However, AEMET has announced that a drop in temperatures is expected on Thursday, which will be locally noticeable in the north of Mallorca; maximum temperatures will range between 29º and 35º. In addition, there will be mainly clear skies, while the wind will be light and variable, tending to the north at midday with coastal breezes.

Given the high temperatures forecast, it is crucial to stay hydrated and avoid direct exposure to the sun during the middle of the day. Sunscreen and light clothing are recommended. Pay attention to warnings about maximum temperatures and take extra precautions if you are in the affected areas. It is important to follow the recommendations to protect yourself from the sun and stay informed about weather warnings.
