The Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Women’s Championships, presented by ecotrans Group, was officially launched today at the Mallorca Country Club, attended by authorities, organisers, and players. The new WTA 125 tournament, held from 4 to 12 October in Santa Ponsa, will put Mallorca back on the international women’s tennis map, with Argentine legend Gabriela Sabatini as official ambassador.

The press conference featured Edwin Weindorfer, CEO of e|motion group; Pilar Carbonell, Director of e|motion Sports Spain; Tournament Director Niko Paunovic; and players Yvonne Cavallé (Mallorca) and Noma Noha Akugue (Germany). Calvià Mayor Juan Antonio Amengual and Eladio Huertas Pons, Manager of the Fundació per l’Esport Balear, also attended.

Weindorfer thanked the institutions and main sponsor Vanda Pharmaceuticals, highlighting the tournament’s return after the WTA Mallorca Open (2016–2019). “The Mallorca Country Club, with clay and grass courts, is the ideal venue to grow women’s tennis again,” he said, adding that the event also promotes equality and supports emerging players.

Among the highlights, young Mallorcan Mirèia Sagristà will receive a wild card for the qualifying rounds, joining local players Cristina Díaz and Yvonne Cavallé. German wild-card entrant Noma Noha Akugue praised the club’s facilities, calling it a “great opportunity to play under excellent conditions.”
Tournament Director Niko Paunovic explained that the singles draw will feature 32 players and eight doubles pairs, with early rounds also held in Magalluf to allow more spectators to enjoy high-level tennis. Cavallé shared her excitement about competing at home and encouraged fans to support all players.

The event will also include a celebrity padel match and a closing party with special guests, increasing the tournament’s visibility. The first weekend (4–5 October) is free to attend, with tickets for remaining sessions available at www.mallorcawomenschampionships.com.
