Deportivo La Coruña 1 - Real Mallorca 0
A Real Mallorca side containing regular starters and reserves were humiliated by second division high flyers Deportivo 1-0 on Tuesday night. Depor started with a side full of B team players and youth academy kids.
Mallorca’s display was described in commentary as “appalling” and once again we were knocked out of the Copa del Rey by a lower league team from Galicia. Mallorca were a better side in the first half, but Japanese winger Asano missed three scoreable chances in quick succession.
Once again we were decent in defence but woeful in attack with right back substitute Pablo Maffeo coming closest to scoring when he hit the bar near the end of a forgettable second half.
In the 81st minute Sergi Darder made a schoolboy error which allowed an 18-year-old striker from the youth team to score after Depor’s Cameroonian player Ndongo headed against the post with youngster Carrillo tapping the ball into an empty net.
All in all a game to forget for Mallorca. As far as our exit is concerned, I think the Copa del Rey is a distraction and our league position is much more important. Our next game is on Friday night at 9 o’clock away at Valencia.
