La Liga strugglers Real Mallorca and Oviedo, both desperate for points, played out a dreary scoreless draw on Friday night. Bottom club Oviedo haven’t won a game in La Liga since way back in September and they had a shedfull of chances but Mallorca goalkeeper Lucas Bergström had his best game for Mallorca since deputising for the injured Leo Roman. The home side lacked any quality upfront and were toothless in attack.
Things changed for them in the second half when they brought on the Egyptian flying machine Hassan. He caused all kinds of problems but even he couldn’t get on the scoresheet. Mallorca don’t seem to believe in their game plan and once again Jan Virgili was the shining light in a poor side.
Oviedo had two men sent off near the end for two horrific tackles. One of the players who saw red was Spanish football legend Santi Cazorla. I watched the game on the telly and listened to the commentary on IB3 Radio.
During the game they read out messages from fans and the majority want the dismissal of the coach Jagoba Arrasate. Whatever tactics he teaches on the training ground are just not working and the Mallorca team are in disarray. On this showing, the team have relegation written all over them.
On Saturday (December 13) we’ll face La Liga’s revelation side Elche at 4:15 in Son Moix. Samu Costa is out through suspension and it looks like captain Antonio Raillo may miss the game after receiving a facial injury. Lose or draw then and Arrasate’s job is on the line.
