Real Mallorca are in reflective mode after the completion of another traumatic campaign. General manager Maheta Molango now starts the job of appointing some new backroom staff and a raft of hopefully better players when the transfer window opens for business on 1 July (it shuts on 31 August).
First up a new director is football is expected after Miguel Angel Nadal quit on Tuesday. His exit doesn't come as a surprise and Tony Muñoz, the ex-Atletico Madrid player, is a possibility to take over. Nadal may be offered the position of club president. Team rebuilding is a major priority with at least a dozen of the squad expected to leave. Players with long-term contracts will stay but question marks remain over Pereira and Sissoko, who is interesting Greek club Panathinaikos. There's also a clamour to bring back German goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther on loan for another term. When it comes to new signings it's a case of watch this space.
The Son Moix pitch has been re-laid, the turf was lifted last week and the new surface was laid down on Friday. The club have re-signed their legendary head groundsman Benito Mateo, who's recognised as one of the best in the business after spells at Inter Milan, Valencia and Malaga; his return is another sign that the American owners mean business.
A poignant letter in the Bulletin's sister publication, Ultima Hora, from German president Utz Claassen filled a page. In it he stated his satisfaction at having saved the club from financial ruin as well as paying Tottenham Hotspur the rest of the transfer fee for Giovanni dos Santos. If that money hadn't been paid, Mallorca would have suffered a very severe sanction from league authorities. At the end of the month his tenure as president comes to an end and he wishes both supporters and club a bright future under the new American regime, which he introduced.
