Real Mallorca 3 - Leganés 0
Sixteenth-placed Mallorca took on surprise Liga Segunda leaders Leganés from Madrid yesterday evening, the stinging criticisms of an ultra-defensive performance away at lowly Almeria still ringing in their ears. Not that Mallorca seemed to have taken a great deal of notice, as it was Leganés who showed the greater ambition in a first half mainly notable for a bad injury to Campabadal which left him unable to open one eye (it turned out not to be serious). He was replaced by Colunga, a forward; Mallorca are fast running out of fit defenders.
Into the second half and just after Szymanowski had caused a degree of panic in the Mallorca defence, it was that man Colunga who put the home side ahead. Gabriel then started to make a nuisance of himself, twice going close before it was super-sub once again for Mallorca. Serantes adjudged to have fouled him in the box, he took the penalty himself to add his second. With Leganés pressing and leaving holes at the back, Ortuño joined in the goalscoring fun five minutes later.
A very good win for Mallorca, which gives them some daylight over those below them, though Almeria and Huesca both play this afternoon.
