Real Mallorca 0 - Real Valladolid 1
Mallorca in the bottom four at home to Valladolid, also in the wrong half of the division, four places above Mallorca in fifteenth.
On a bright Sant Antoni Day, a midday kick-off saw Mallorca control most of the first period, the best opportunity falling to Coro in the 26th minute when he hit the bar from a Costas assist. Wellenreuther, not having a great deal to do, unlike Kepa in the Valladolid goal, got himself booked, as did Yuste, for protesting when Valladolid didn't kick the ball out with a player down injured.
Kepa did well to deny Aveldaño immediately after the break. On came new signing Roigé for his first game in a Mallorca shirt, and almost immediately scored, just brushing the post. Valladolid had their first real scoring opportunity through a Timor free kick on 70 minutes that went just over the bar. Soon after, one-time Mallorca player Alfaro went close with a header. With just over ten minutes left, Valladolid had the ball in the net, but Villar was judged to have been offside.
Then, with under two minutes left, Villar did score, a Moijca left-wing cross finding him on the far post to touch past Wellenreuther.
An all too familiar tale for Mallorca: an inability to score. Having dominated for much of the game, there was almost an inevitability about Valladolid, only applying pressure for the last twenty minutes or so, grabbing the winner.
Mallorca have another home game this coming Saturday (23 January) against fifth-placed Alcorcón, but coach Gálvez might not still be in charge.
