Real Mallorca 1 - Girona 1
Following last week's disappointment in Tenerife - going ahead after 90 seconds and then contriving to concede two goals in under 90 seconds - Mallorca were looking to go on their Christmas break with a much-needed three points under their belt against a similarly relegation-haunted Girona.
With the away side parking the bus, it was more or less one-way traffic in the first half, Mallorca starting with high intensity, dropping off, letting Bianchi get his almost mandatory yellow and coming back to score near the half hour: centre-back Aveldaño burying a header from the lively Sabater's assist. Becerra in the Girona goal was being kept busy and doing particularly well to keep out a Moutinho direct free kick, while Wellenreuther was mainly redundant, other than having to watch an Alcalá header sail wide.
The German keeper was then required to stop an effort from Alcaraz on 61 minutes, with Girona having come out after the break and showing somewhat more intent. But Mallorca seemed in no danger of being denied three points, until disaster struck in added time, Olivas equalising for Girona and leaving Mallorca to rue what should have been a straightforward win.
