Mallorca International School is proud to announce the appointment of its new Headteacher, Michelle Klaassen, who joins the school with extensive international experience and a strong vision for the future.
Founded in 2016, Mallorca International School is a family-owned British international school serving both local and international families. The school follows the English National Curriculum from Early Years through to GCSEs, with students able to continue their A Level and BTEC studies at its sister campus, Palma College. MIS is known for its inclusive ethos, small class sizes, and strong focus on creativity, wellbeing, and academic achievement.
Ms Klaassen brings over 25 years of experience in education beginning her career as an English and Drama teacher in Australia and the UK before moving into senior leadership 17 years ago. Most recently, she spent five years in Oman as a Headteacher, where she helped to establish two new British international schools.
From her first visit to MIS, Ms Klaassen was struck by its sense of warmth. “The school has an excellent reputation for combining academic achievement with a nurturing environment, and that balance really resonated with me. Life on the island also offers something unique - a welcoming community and a pace of life that allows you to focus on what really matters: people, relationships, and education.”
Looking ahead, she is clear about her vision. “I want Mallorca International School to be a place where every student feels known, valued, and inspired to achieve their best. I want to build on the school’s strong foundations by ensuring high standards of teaching and learning, while also prioritising wellbeing, creativity, and curiosity. At the heart of this is giving every child the confidence to be the best version of themselves, so they leave not only with excellent results but also as confident, compassionate young people.”
Her leadership style is collaborative and open. She believes in listening, empowering staff, and working in partnership with students, parents, and the wider community.
MIS recently celebrated another excellent set of GCSE results, something Ms Klaassen is proud to highlight. “These achievements are not just about exam preparation, but about years of consistent effort, high-quality teaching, and strong pastoral support. At Mallorca International School, students are encouraged to develop the confidence to be the best version of themselves - and that has produced outstanding GCSE results year on year, as well as excellent progress at every key stage.”
Reflecting on her first weeks at MIS, Ms Klaassen concludes: “I feel so lucky to have joined Mallorca International School at such an exciting time. I am already enjoying working with staff, students, and parents to ensure every child grows with confidence and reaches their full potential.”
Families interested in learning more are warmly invited to attend the next whole-school Open Day on Tuesday 21st October. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to see the school in action, meet our dedicated staff, and talk to current students,” says Ms Klaassen. Parents are also welcome to arrange visits or taster days at any time.
