The decomposed body of a man has been discovered in a remote wooded area near Bellver Castle in Palma, triggering an investigation by Spain’s National Police.
The remains were found on Monday morning by a hiker walking through a difficult-to-access part of the forest, who then alerted emergency services. Officers arriving at the scene reported no obvious signs of violence or bloodstains nearby.
Detectives from the National Police Homicide Unit later took over the investigation. Early inquiries suggest there is currently no evidence of third-party involvement, although investigators say all possibilities remain open.
Police are still working to identify the man, while an autopsy due to take place at the Balearic Islands’ Institute of Legal Medicine is expected to determine the exact cause of death.
