A 35-year-old Romanian was released by a court in Palma on Thursday, having been arrested by the National Police in connection with two thefts in Playa de Palma.

Around 3pm on May 8, a German tourist was walking along C. Mar Menor when a rented Mazda pulled up beside him. One of the occupants got out of the vehicle and snatched his wallet containing 500 euros which was in his back pocket. He then got back in the car, which was driven off.

The following day around 6pm, another German tourist was walking along C. Marbella. He suddenly lost consciousness and fell to the ground. The thief, along with another unidentified individual, pretended to help him, as could be seen in security camera footage, but stole his belongings.

When he came round, and with a bleeding wound on the back of his head, the tourist realised that his wallet, containing personal documents and 150 euros in cash, had been stolen.

The Romanian man had previously been arrested six times for thefts committed in Tarragona, Fuengirola, Madrid, and Mallorca. In court on Thursday, he exercised his right to remain silent and was released by the duty judge.
