A substantial bluefin tuna, weighing close to 282 kilograms, was recently caught in waters close to sa Dragonera, some 10 miles off the coast. The catch was then brought ashore at Port d’Andratx.
One of the fishermen involved, Toni Novo, described the event: "We went fishing around the Sa Dragonera area, about 10 miles out, and that's where we caught it. It is a very large fish."
Despite the size of the tuna, Novo noted that such captures are not unusual for the local fishers. "It's a powerful bluefin tuna, around 300 kilos. This isn't extraordinary for us because each year we see catches like this in the area."
Upon arrival at the port, the tuna was lifted by a crane to be weighed and moved to the fish market. This attracted several onlookers, who gathered to see the large fish and take photographs as it was unloaded from the quay.
