Foreign Office warning to British tourists travelling to Mallorca

Guests could be asked to leave their hotel

Fewer incidents in Magalluf,.

The British Foreign Office has advised British holidaymakers travelling to Majorca and Spain that they could be asked to leave their hotel if found to be behaving irresponsibly around balconies. British tourists are therefore being urged not to take unnecessary risks when on balconies, especially if under the influence of drink or drugs, when visiting the country.

In Mallorca, the Calvia council, has taken radical action. Calvia Local Police classify jumping or climbing between balconies as a serious offense. Offenders face colossal fines of up to 36,000 euros.

Under the Balearic government's Decree on Tourism Excesses, identified tourists are immediately evicted from their hotels in addition to being fined.

Since the introduction of tough legislation the number of balcony incidents in resorts such as Magalluf have fallen.

Because "balconing" is frequently fueled by binge drinking, the council—alongside the Balearic Government—has implemented strict measures to curb alcohol abuse.
